Strengths And Weaknesses Of Reading - 751 Words

In my opinion, the reason for this assignment is for the teacher to see where we are in our reading, and writing. Reading to me must happen when I am interested in something for example, a movie because I enjoy reading about the plots but everyone is different. Another example is a graphic novel, because you can understand the concept or plot a lot easier than you would do in a regular novel. In regular books, you have so many things going on and you aren’t able to understand what is happening then you end up getting the wrong idea. Writing is just about the same for example, I can’t write about something that I know nothing about or interested in. Therefore, I am writing this paper to show you my weaknesses and not my strengths because I†¦show more content†¦That is where most of my mistakes are is in the body paragraphs. That is usual where I get off topic or start to ramble on about one thing which leads to one paragraph is longer than the others. My conclu sions never connect the entire essay together which I also say needs improvement. When you think of a researcher you think of a scientist doing an experiment. I feel like that is the same as a research paper just without the experiment. So, in a research paper it’s your own interpretation or evaluation or argument. Meaning, you use everything that you personally know and have researched about that topic. When I am assigned a research paper the first thing I do is look it up online to understand more about it. At that point, I try to figure out what is worth talking about in the paper or figure out what I can argue to get my point across. As for library databases, I never used them once because I use technology. I can give a detailed report on the assignment with the correct amount of research and citations. To begin my conclusion John Green said this quote â€Å"Writing is something you do alone. It’s a profession for introverts who want to tell you a story but donâ⠂¬â„¢t want to make eye contact while doing it.† I’m not a writer I dislike doing things alone or being by myself for that matter. Multiple Intelligences by Howard Gardner Free Essays

‘Multiple intelligences’ is a theory first created by Howard Gardner.   They describe eight different ways that people can be smart without falling into the traditional description of what people think of as smart.   It is good to know what one’s own intelligences are, and to know the intelligences of one’s students in a teaching situation, because everyone learns differently. We will write a custom essay sample on Multiple Intelligences by Howard Gardner or any similar topic only for you Order Now The multiple intelligences were first described in the early 1990s by Howard Gardner, a psychologist who was interested in the ways that people learned.   He noted that most traditional intelligence tests looked at visual/spatial ability, mathematical/logical ability, and verbal ability.   However, Gardner was convinced that people did not have to have these abilities to be smart. He saw that people were ‘talented’ in music, sports, or even in their ability to be reflective or relate to others.   Whereas most people considered these abilities ‘extra’ or ‘talents,’ they did not consider them as intelligences.   Gardner disagreed. Gardner felt that people were considered smart in seven different ways (the eighth intelligence was added later).   The original intelligences were visual/spatial, logical/mathematical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, musical, bodily/kinesthetic, and linguistic.   The eighth intelligence is naturalistic. Visual/spatial intelligence deals with the ability to understand pictures and objects in two and three dimensional space.   Someone with this strength is good at art, reading maps, and related visual abilities. Logical/mathematical is about the ability to reason and work with numbers.   People with this intelligence are good at math, logic puzzles, and other forms of reasoning. Interpersonal deals with the ability to relate to others.   People with this intelligence are good at making friends, winning people over (like in politics or leadership situations), and understanding others. Intrapersonal deals with one’s ability to understand oneself.   People with this ability are usually reflective and introspective, and may keep journals.   They continually try to understand themselves better and to improve themselves based on their reflection. Musical is exactly what it sounds like, the ability to understand music.   These people are often musicians, and find understanding and hearing patterns in music easy, and find learning instruments easy as well.   They are ‘gifted’ in the field of learning music. Bodily/kinesthetic refers to being good at physical motion and coordination.   These people are good at sports, hand-eye coordination, and other physical pursuits.   They find motion easy, and may be basketball players, dancers, and gymnasts (or other athletes). Linguistic is the ability to understand languages.   These people often find it easy to learn and understand foreign languages.   They also enjoy reading, writing, and relating in written fashion. Naturalistic intelligence, which was added later, is about understanding nature.   People will be interested in nature, find it easy to understand the way plants and animals live and function, and are soothed by being in nature. All of these intelligences are equally important in Gardner’s model.   Also, everyone has more than one of these intelligences and may, to some degree, have all of them.   Each person has two or three real strengths; some have more or less.   Some people are very strongly intelligent in only one area while others may have four or five that are all fairly strong. Knowing what a person’s strengths are will determine how they learn.   A person who is kinesthetic tends to be very hands-on, and to want to try things.   A person who is musical may learn by using songs or chants.   A person who is linguistic may want to read when learning.   It is important to know a person’s preference for learning so that whenever possible, classroom activities can be geared towards as many students as possible. After completing the inventory, I have discovered that I have intrapersonal strength, logical strength, interpersonal strength, and kinesthetic strength.   In these areas, I scored far higher than I did in other areas.   My scores were section 1-4, section 2=6 section 3=8 section 4=7 section 5=8 section 6=8 section 7=4 section 8=10 section 9=2.   This analysis sheds light on my strengths and weaknesses, and I can use this knowledge to learn in the ways that make sense to me.   This can also help teachers to understand their students.   Multiple intelligences are a good way to assess and understand students. Business Ethics Taiwanese Group

Question: Discuss about theBusiness Ethicsfor Taiwanese Group. Answer: Introduction Foxconn technology group is a Taiwanese group , that has its plant in Shenzhen, China. Foxconn is one of the worlds most famous manufacturing companies that produces the products of Mac Mini, iPad, iPhone, Dell, Hp Motherboards, Wii, Xbox 360, etc. Foxconn is a huge company that has employed of about 300,000 people in its Shezhen factory. This company exports its products to other countries, such as Asia, United States Of America , Europe and other countries (May 2014). Controversy In the year 2010, an epidemic wave of suicides had swept away china, where Foxconn Manufacturing company had come into limelight due to the increase in the amount of suicides happening within the company. The workers were engaged in producing apple iPad, Sony Ericsson phones, and other electronic items. They have been supplying the producers with the must have gadgets of the current generation, whereas, these people have been facing trouble in the work conditions of the country (Guo et al. 2012). With adverse working situations of long work hours, forced labour, low wages and ill treatment, pressurized many workers to commit suicide. Effect on The Stakeholders As stated by Freivalds and Niebel (2013), there are three principles of CSR, namely, sustainability, accountability and transparency. In the case of Foxconn suicides, the principle that is violated in this context is that of accountability. Accountability states that there must be a positive effect laid to the stakeholders of the company. Accountability deals with the appropriate measures that must be taken in order to provide the company with the best proposal of fulfilling the ethical framework of the stakeholders of the company (Idowu, Capaldi and Zu 2013). In the case of Foxconn suicides, accountability issue is overlooked. The main issue was that the workers of the company were suffering from severe work conditions that were affecting their ethical structure at work. This aspect violated the human dignity by making them work under severe conditions. On 25th may, 2010, according to a news post, nine employees had killed themselves at Foxconn, which had made people to work under severe conditions which makes the apple iPad, and Sony Ericsson phones (May 2014). This case has turned the attention of the whole nation towards the working conditions of the company. A report in southern weekly newspaper of Guangzhou, china, states that , an intern had represented before them a grim picture of the working conditions of the people. It had been reported that the workers have to stand for eight hours in assembly lines without a break and without talking (Xu and Li 2013). Workers , who share their rooms with other 9 workers, often did not know each others names as they were under strict surveillance. The basic pay of the company to its worker, was 900 RMB per month. This was not enough to lead a healthy life. Strange quotations like achieve goals or the sun will no longer shine, and growth thy name is suffering is one of the most stressful quotes that has been used by the Foxconns CEO. Part 4 What Happened There was an epidemic wave of suicides in the country in the year 2010. Altogether 11 suicide attempts had been noticed, of which only two of them had survived. Whole worlds attention had been drawn towards the incident, which took place there that had created an adverse impact on the manufacturing company. Where Did it Happen The incident took place in Foxconn factory, in Shenzen province, china. Who were Involved In Foxconn company, two stakeholders are most important, their employees and the two main parties that are involved in the group. Foxconn has been aligned to various companies, of which, one of the major company is Apple Inc. With the sudden involvement of such complicated issues within the workplace of the company, many companies that are aligned to Foxconn are also affected. When did it Happen This event took place from 2009-2010, which affected the stakeholders related to the company. Why did it Happen The work atmosphere in the company, led to many mistreatments to the employees. There has been too much pressure in the work culture of the company. This creates a psychological effect on the workers, thereby creating an adverse effect on their life style. Long working hours and jobs burden has created many misfits in within the work place that has led to suicidal attempts by many workers. It seems that the organizations behaviour has been affected by peoples negative thoughts towards the company. This focuses on how the company fails at managing the organization. In order to attain maximum profits from the sales of the company, Foxconn has overlooked the stress that is prevailing in the workplace of the manufacturing company. Reasons Occupational demand: workers of the factory are working on unpleasant working conditions. They were supposed to stand on assembly lines for eight hours. They do not communicate with each other, and hence, in some situations, they do not know the names of their co -workers. The junior workers face verbal abuse of senior officials, and they are forced to work at sever conditions. They are not allowed to do anything else except work. Overload task: the workers of the Foxconn Company were always overloaded with work. They were supposed to do work more than what is possible for them to do. They were supposed to work for longer hours and work for 6 days a week, with a margin of 100 hours overtime per month. Many people were feeling suffocated in the work atmosphere (Lucas, Kang and Li 2013). Responsibility on others and rule juggling : there are various cultural and economic factors that prevail in the company. China has been going through one of the most rapid process of urbanization. There ate adjustment difficulties within the country that has led to a high suicide rate in the country. The youth of the country often faces little scope of help from their parents , as they do not understand the world into which their child is entering. Lack of social support : in the dormitories of the Foxconn company, there are many youths who were facing problems in sustaining the environment of the work conditions. Hence, these people found it easy to commit suicide to overcome their problems rather than helping each other to get away with the issues. Steps Taken Suicide is a complex issue that has been prevailing among the youths of the country, specially were working under the adverse conditions of the Foxconn company. These people were under serious conditions, which had affected their mental and physical health conditions. In order to overcome the conditions, the steps undertaken by the company is as follows Short term actions had been taken by the organization in order to overcome the suicidal attacks happening within the surroundings. Managing psychological side of the employees and considering the economical situation of the workers is one of the earliest step that must be undertaken by the company to overcome such issues (GRI 2015). The company has provided the people working in their organization with social support and efforts to maximise their satisfaction of working in friendly circumstances. There is a raise in the salary of the people, which has given them ample opportunities to sustain their standard of living of the people. This helped to form the trust of the workers towards the people. This gave the people the time to socialize, adjust with their work, create a friendly atmosphere in the work place and create work satisfaction among the workers. By changing the work style of Foxconn company, the performance of the workers would be improved that would help in promoting the brand performance and bringing sustainability at work. An atmosphere of peoples management culture must be created among the workers. Reference Freivalds, A. and Niebel, B., 2013.Niebel's Methods, Standards, Work Design. Mcgraw-Hill higher education.
